I'm furious after I was charged daylight robbery prices at Britain's most expensive bakery

HORRIFIED customers have accused a bakery dubbed Britain's most expensive of "daylight robbery" after seeing the price for a single cookie.

A posh London bakery has been slammed by outraged visitors who were shocked to find cookies would set them back £25 after the menu prices were kept hidden.

Cédric Grolet opened in The Berkeley London hotel earlier this year and is known for being one of the finest patisseries outside of Paris.

The pastry chef, whose business is named after him, has won several awards for his creations, however his prices have sparked fury.

In one TikTok, a user was shocked to discover their bill came to £34 after ordering a mint tea and a seemingly plain cookie, which they described as "daylight robbery".

The Knightsbridge bakery has garnered a lot of attention online, after one TikTok user filmed pastries displayed on the counter saying: "You know never to trust somewhere that doesn't have the prices or a menu out.

"So it had all these beautiful products but had no idea how much anything was."

After they sampled the pricey cookie, they added: "This was a good cookie but it wasn't amazing."

In the comments, one person said: "The way my jaw dropped."

"£25 is birthday cake territory," another added.

A third wrote: "You were ripped off."

For £85 you can enjoy the entire Goûter afternoon tea experience, which The Berkeley describe as: "Cédric Grolet’s fusion of Goûter (the French tradition of sweet snacking) and the best of British afternoon tea showcases signature and new savoury and sweet creations with special surprise moments."

But not everyone is tempted by the menu, one person wrote on Twitter: "I just watched a TikTok of the most expensive bakery in London.

"Sometimes I think London is just a social experiment to see how far they can go with overpricing things and get away with it."

The comment section also revealed a common dislike of the signature cheesecake.

One person said: "I had the cheesecake and I was not impressed, I will go back to try the pastries though."

"I tried their cheesecake and it wasn’t good at all," another added.

Cédric Grolet also offers an "immersive experience" where you can sample five sweet and one savoury signature tasting, served with champagne.

But it will cost £135 per person.
