Coronation Street star Shayne Ward has tattoos lasered off in bid for more period drama roles

SOAP star Shayne Ward is having his tribal tattoos lasered off in a bid to bag a role in a period drama.

The Coronation Street actor, 33, has been making regular visits to a tattoo removal centre in Manchester since The Sun revealed in November he’s quitting the Cobbles after three years.

And he hopes being tattoo-free will help drama bosses take him more seriously as a potential lead star.

A source said: “Shayne is taking his bid to go into serious dramas very seriously.
“He’s hoping that getting rid of the tattoos on both arms and will help with castings and open the door to more work.

“Coronation Street has been an amazing opportunity but he’s ready to try new things.”

Shayne admitted two years ago that he’d like to “start again” when it comes to his body art.

Asked what he would change about his body, he said: “It would be to have no tattoos.

"I’d like a blank canvas to start again. I now know what I want, whereas as a teenager I didn’t have a clue.”

His Underworld boss character Aidan Connor was seen struggling with a kidney op recovery last week after donating an organ to sister Carla.

The tough scenes prompted fans to speculate he could be killed off by bosses after failing to get back to full health.

And he’s already got his eye on BBC drama Peaky Blinders starring Tom Hardy and Cillian Murphy as a potential next project.

He said: “I’m not nervous about leaving Corrie I’m excited by the challenge. I can go on to other things now.
